List members may be interested in a *FREE* one-day Symposium that will be taking place in the School of Museum Studies, at the University of Leicester on *20 April*.
http://representingreformation.net/get-involved/events/disciplinarity/
Our list of invited guests includes: Frank James (Professor of the History of Science, The Royal Institution); Robert Bud (Keeper of Science and Medicine, The Science Museum); Vincent Gaffney (Chair in Landscape Archaeology and Geomatics, Director of the Visual and Spatial Technology Centre, University of Birmingham); Anthony Beck (DART Project Champion, University of Leeds); Haida Liang (Reader in Physics, Nottingham Trent University); Stephen Garrett (Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics, University of Leicester); Lisa Ford (Associate Head of Research, Yale Center for British Art); Steven Gunn (Lecturer in Modern History, Merton College, University of Oxford); and Jennifer Mundy (Head of Collections Research, Tate).
The symposium is marking the mid-point of a three-year interdisciplinary 'digital heritage' / 'heritage science' research project entitled 'Representing Re-Formation', part of the national Science and Heritage programme.

On its project Leicester is working with Oxford University, The Yale Center for British Art and English Heritage. In short, we are using space science to crack a late medieval art historical mystery! Find out more at:

Our choice of subject for the Symposium is because our project is characterised by some novel interdisciplinarity, bringing together physics, art history, history, museum studies, archaeology and computer science.
The day (very much 'in the round', and not a series of papers) will be split into three main 'discussions' - one on disciplinarity (why do we have academic disciplines, where did they come from and how have they evolved), another on interdisciplinarity (what makes for successful interdisciplinary work, and what is gained and lost in researching in this way), and a final discussion asking whether our academic disciplines are still fit for purpose in the twenty-first century and how some academics see themselves and their work in a 'post-disciplinary' context.
You would be very welcome to join us.
