Senior Investigator Statistician (IRC50284)
Cambridge
Fixed Term (Position is funded initially until Sept 2013. There may be the possibility of further funding)
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Research Fellow to join the MRC Biostatistics Unit and the team of Professor Richardson to carry out leading edge research in statistical methodology related to the analysis of high order interactions, with applications in genetic epidemiology. You will join an internationally-renowned Biostatistics Unit and a team which is at the cutting edge of applications and developments in Bayesian hierarchical modelling, stochastic algorithms for large data problems such as those arising in genomic and genetics, and statistical methods in epidemiology, environment and health. The position will be supervised by Professor Sylvia Richardson and the post holder will also work closely with the other members of her group, and with a French cancer epidemiology team from INSERM (Paris), which is responsible for the data collection and the overall coordination of the work.
A statistician is required to contribute to this grant within a wider programme of research into the modeling and analysis of high dimensional genomics and genetic epidemiology data. The role will have the potential to involve methodological development and direct application of current methods, balanced to the skills of the post-holder.
You will have a PhD in statistics, computing experience, both of statistical packages (e.g. R) and programming languages (C++) and experience of Bayesian statistics. Experience of Bayesian computation (e.g. MCMC) and of penalized regression methods would be advantageous. You must have good communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to writing scientific papers.
Starting salary will be in the range of £35,935 - £38,162 per annum, supported by a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days annual leave entitlement, and an optional MRC final salary Pension Scheme.
