New Localism: What’s the role for women?
Wednesday 2 May 2012, 4-6pm
This seminar is a joint event convened by London Women and Planning Forum (LWPF) and the Centre for Sustainable Communities, University of Hertfordshire. It focuses on the relevance of the New Localism agenda for women. The Coalition Government has introduced important changes in planning and environmental policy including the Localism Act and the National Planning Policy Framework. While New Localism is the focus of significant debate, less attention has been paid to the ways in which women and New Localism will affect each other. Will it bring significant changes to communities and, in turn, to women’s positions and roles within those communities? This seminar will discuss and raise questions on whether New Localism will work for women, the opportunities and challenges it will bring and how women can get involved in shaping the new bill.
The event is aimed particularly at planning, regeneration, housing, community development, and environmental professionals working in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Academics, researchers and postgraduate students will also find the event informative.
