Subject: [dcc-associates] New line-up for DCC Northeast England Roadshow
+++ Apologies for cross posting +++
Some places remain<http://www.dcc.ac.uk/events/data-management-roadshows/northeast-roadshow-registration> for the DCC Northeast England Roadshow in Newcastle upon Tyne, 23-24 April.
The event is being held at the Darwin Suite, 3rd Floor Bioscience Centre, Times Square, Newcastle
The programme<http://www.dcc.ac.uk/webfm_send/803> has an exciting range of speakers who will share examples of developing research data management services and infrastructure. Registrants can sign up for either or both days of this free event.
Professor Julie McLeod of Northumbria University School of Computing, Engineering, and Information Sciences is opening the event.
* Day 1 is a general introduction. As well as an overview of the data management landscape from DCC Director Kevin Ashley, there wil be an oppountunity to hear the progress of projects Iridium, DATUM, and Cerif 4 Data, from the JISC funded Managing Research Data programme. On top of that you get to hear Andy Powell on Eduserve's cloud offering, Paul Watson on barriers to cloud adoption, Simon Kerridge on research information systems, and Jonathan Tedds on BRISSKit.
* Day 2 is our recently revamped strategic training day. The workshop provides an introduction to curation and DCC tools through presentations and breakout exercises, so you can start to plan research data management services for your institution. This includes a first outing for the new Version 3 of DMP Online, the DCC's tool for Data Management Planning.
To get a taster of what to expect, previous events have been blogged, for example by Pablo De Castro of the SONEX project<http://sonexworkgroup.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/northwest-england-dcc-roadshow-at.html>, and John Murtagh from the University of the Arts, London who offers an arts perspective<http://www.dcc.ac.uk/news/arts-perspective-dcc-roadshow> as he undertakes work on the JISC-funded KAPTUR project.
Attending the forthcoming roadshow may help you not only realise the importance of data management, but provide you with the tools to deal with it.
We look forward to seeing you there!
