Apart from monitoring the environment of an archive or record store does anyone know of any UK requirements/ COPs/best practice regarding regular monitoring of the condition of the records. For example, for an archive containing mainly paper records is there a sample size or frequency of checking the condition of the paper, or is there an assumption that, if the environment is OK, then the paper will be OK? The same question applies to microfiche records. I know of the mechanics of checking density etc but what percentage do you check and how often?
