Dear members of RAMESES,
My name is Anthony Lacouture. I am a research assistant working on a scoping study on the concept of mechanism. The project involves three researchers from France and Canada; Anne Guichard, French National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (Inpes); Eric Breton, EHESP French School of Public Health; and Valery Ridde, Montreal University Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM).
As you know the concept of mechanism is at the very heart of the Realist approach. Our project aims to gather information about the various ways the concept is understood and used in the social sciences and in population health research. This work would allow us to suggest a theoretical definition that fits within the realist approach framework for the assessment of complex interventions in population health. Secondly, the idea would be to analyse, through the lens of this improved definition, interventions addressing social inequalities in health.
Aware of how committed you are to the development of the Realist approach, I would be very interested in benefiting from your experience and works in this area. I would therefore be grateful if I could get a chance to share ideas with those of you who may have initiated similar enterprises.
Please, feel free to contact me for any additional information you may need.
I look forward to learning from your work in this field.
Best regards,
Anthony LACOUTURE – Research assistant
