The 1881 Census must refer to Samuel and his brother, William (no other initial), and their mother, Ann, who was born in Peter Tavy and appears to be widowed (Annie L. was born in Buckland according to 1901 Census).

The 1881 Census records Annie, Samuel and William as living at 14, King Street. The occupations of the two boys are down as "Blacksmith in Copper Mine", when William was 16 years old and Samuel 19 years old
