PhD Studentship in Magnetic Resonance, topic: "Highly efficient quantum spin dynamics simulation algorithms".
The University of Southampton, UK is offering a fully funded PhD studentship in the research group of Dr Ilya Kuprov.
Project summary: the project will focus on the simulation of NMR, ESR and DNP experiments in macromolecular systems as well as the development of theoretical frameworks and software. The results will provide basic theoretical and software infrastructure for large-scale spin dynamics simulations and Optimal Control optimization of NMR/ESR pulse sequences. The simulations will inform new experiment design and pulse sequence implementation as well as the interpretation of the resulting data.
The studentship is fully funded at EU fees level for 4 years from 1st October 2012 and includes a stipend of £13,290 per year. The successful candidate will be provided with a workstation built to his/her specification and have access to the largest university-based supercomputer in the country of Great Britain. The NMR Centre at the University of Southampton, headed by Prof Malcolm Levitt, has one of the strongest NMR research teams in the world.
For further information please see the Spin Dynamics Group web page (http://spindynamics.org). Applications (including a cover letter, a CV and names of two referees) should be sent to Dr Ilya Kuprov ([log in to unmask]) by 30 April 2012.
