Statistician
CEH Wallingford, Oxfordshire
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed statistician to work with hydrologists and environmental scientists in an active research team based at our Wallingford site. The primary roles of this post will be to:
1. Contribute to a number of high profile projects, both internally and externally funded, where extreme value statistics is a major component;
2. Work with internal and external collaborators to develop and apply rigorous statistical procedures and models;
3. Provide statistical advice to CEH scientists with varying degrees of statistical understanding on a range of hydrological topics;
4. Assist in the production of reports and scientific papers detailing major research findings.
This is a research-based post focused on undertaking statistical work and providing advice, so candidates will be expected to have a degree in statistics and some project-based experience of applied statistical work in a University or research environment. Existing knowledge of hydrology, climatology or meteorology would be an advantage, particularly in the area of extremes. The research-based nature of the post means the role would be ideally suited to someone with an aptitude for solving complex problems, self-motivated and with enthusiasm for the subject.
The salary for this post is £26,180 progressing to £29,410 per annum. In addition NERC offers a public sector pension scheme, 30 days’ annual leave and 10½ days’ public and privilege holiday per annum. We offer a flexible and supportive working environment and will encourage your continuing professional development as part of our career support.
