Re Sue's posting according to the Personal Protective Equipment regulations
it is illegal to charge employees for person protective equipment (PPE).
However, I doubt whether immunisation would classify as PPE. The concept
that prospective employees must arrange and finance immunisation prior to
being offered employment raises some interesting legal implications. Not
being a lawyer I would not wish to comment on this, other than to suggest
that since all immunisation carries with it some medical risk, however
slight, how would the prospective employer stand legally were an applicant,
required to provide immunisation, suffer from an associated health problem?
On a less legalistic note, what message would this policy send out to
prospective employees? What does it suggest about that employer's attitude
towards employees' health and safety? Would I wish to work for an employer
who adopts this type of policy?
