Applications are invited for PhD studies focused on analytical and computational modeling of nanoscale systems with chemical, physical, and biological applications. Typical research: 1) molecular dynamics simulations of self-assembly of meta-materials, structural analysis of the meta-materials, and molecular transport around them; 2) modeling of nanomedicines based on micelles and other systems; 3) electron (phonon) band structure and transport calculations in nanocarbons, including optical studies; 4) quantum molecular dynamics simulations of molecular binding to material surfaces and molecular passage through nanopores, etc. The research will be conducted in the group of Prof. Petr Kral in the Chemistry Department of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
We are seeking creative and highly motivated individuals, with computational skills and background in chemistry, physics or biology. Preliminary knowledge of theoretical methods used in the above fields is very welcome, i.e. methods used in molecular design, electronic structure calculations, quantum transport, molecular dynamics, etc. The candidates should be interested to conduct interdisciplinary theoretical research at the nanoscale.
