Post doctoral research position at University Paris Est Créteil (1 year), Laboratoire Interuniversitaire des Systèmes Atmosphériques (LISA): Simulation of Titan's atmospheric processes
This position is related to the determination of physico-chemical mechanisms governing the atmosphere of Titan. The successful candidate will participate in two experimental programs that are currently pursued in our group "Physico-chimie Organique Spatiale" and who simulate atmospheric processes occurring at Titan. One of the two experiments is called SETUP and is focused on the evolution of chemical compounds of relevance in the gas phase. A plasma reactor is used to dissociate molecular nitrogen. It can be combined with a H2/He flow discharge lamp that emits Ly-alpha radiation. Short and long lived photoproducts are detected quantitatively using Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy
The second experiment that will be used is called SMARD and is dedicated to the chemical characterization of the particulate phase of Titan's aerosols. Here a radio frequency cold plasma reactor (called PAMPRE) is used to simulate the chemical evolution of Titan's atmosphere. The nanoparticles produced within this reactor are analyzed in-situ using an aerosol mass spectrometer. In the latter, particles are spatially focused into the ion source of a TOF-MS by an aerodynamic lens system. The size distribution is measured by a two-fold optical detection of scattered light.
Skills ideally required for this postdoc work include experience with cw and pulsed lasers (IR, UV or both), spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, optics as well as vacuum technology. Knowledge in planetology and/or atmospheric chemistry and physics are clearly of advantage. French language skills are of advantage too but not indispensable. More details can be found at : www.lisa.u-pec.fr
The net salary will be about 2200 €/month net. Starting date is between July and September 2012. Deadline for application is April 1st, 2012.
