Subject: Re: More on archiving online content
Dear all,
This is a fascinating discussion. I realise that most of this concerns
ways to archive the content yourselves, but I wonder if anyone is
interested in using the UK Web Archive as an additional or alternative
method?
The UK Web Archive was set up back in 2004 and is a selective archive of
UK websites. Run by the British Library, we currently have around 10,000
titles in the collection and more are added every day. The purpose of
the Web Archive is to collect, preserve and give permanent access to UK
websites for future generations
Anyone is welcome to nominate a website, using the nominations form at
http://www.webarchive.org.uk/ukwa/info/nominate. We ask the content
owner for permission to archive, and we typically revisit sites
periodically to capture changes to the sites over time. We also QA
copies of sites to ensure they are sufficiently complete before being
added to the collection.
The collection is publicly accessible from
http://www.webarchive.org.uk/ukwa/
If anyone wishes to nominate their site or discuss using the web archive
to support development of special, themed collection, then please do get
in touch.
Best wishes,
Maureen.
