Hello,
Many thanks to all who responded to this.
There was general agreement that students find bookable group study rooms very popular and these are likely to be oversubscribed regardless of the equipment (or lack of it) within them.
Responses from institutions on what they provided included the following:
1 x PC, data projector and screen (with decent blinds on the room) was used at one institution, and was v. oversubscribed
Wall-mounted display screens into which students can plug own laptops in booths for 6 or so users. V. popular as students can simply plug in and start
Wall-mounted plasma screens - popular both for collaborative authoring and presentation practice
One institution had PCs + large screens (technically known as Portable Media Display Units). V. popular but large screens can be disproportionate to size of group rooms available.
They also had whiteboards with pens for loan and these were not quite as popular as the screens

Subject: whiteboard/screen provision for student group rooms
Hello all,
Here at LSBU we currently have several bookable student rooms. Each of these is equipped with a PC but nothing beyond that in the way of wall-mounted PC screen, or interactive whiteboards etc.
Can anyone recommend what we should have (assuming we had the money!) from their own experience of what students will actually get some value from.
Should we have PCs connected to a screen?; wall-mounted screens with wireless keyboards?; full interactive whiteboards with PCs?; is there much value in having video equipment?. The rooms are largely used by small (4-5) groups of students working collaboratively on coursework and presentations.
Any advice/examples gratefully received and can be summarised for list
thanks,
Alan
