Dear all,
We’d like to let you know about our plans to extend the content of the SPIE Digital Library to include conference proceedings and journal papers back to the beginning of our publishing program.
Librarians visiting the UKSG conference this week in Glasgow are invited to visit Stand #40 for more information about the SDL and our plans to add the complete backfile while upgrading our platform later this year.
An additional 40,000 technical papers dating from 1962 through 1989 will be added to the existing content, making the SPIE Digital Library complete. The content will be added in conjunction with the move to the Silverchair platform later in 2012.
Over the years many subscribers have expressed a desire for SPIE to add this older content. Earlier articles are often requested and we are delighted to have the opportunity to meet the demand to access this historically important and unique material.
In response to global economic shifts and following considered reassessment of subscription fees over the last few years – with a 10% rollback in 2010, a price freeze in 2011, and a further 5% rollback in 2012 – SPIE is in a position to offer this additional content as added value to customers’ licenses, with no extra charge to subscribers.
The SPIE Digital Library is the most extensive research resource on optics and photonics, with more than 330,000 technical papers from SPIE Journals and Conference Proceedings from 1990 to the present and more than 160 SPIE Press eBooks. SPIE publishes approximately 18,000 new technical papers and 15 to 20 new books in the SPIE Digital Library each year.
Regards,
Allison
