Hi Karen
Your post has really got me thinking. The idea of confidentiality
fascinates me because of where it does and doesn't help. I have a
practical and a speculative response. Have you been requested to provide
details of which students come, or just demographic data? Only a problem
if the latter I suppose. I do provide information in some circumstances,
recently we have had a couple of complaints of lack of support, and I
provided evidence of what has been offered and the take up.
More speculatively, ideas of confidentiality seem to me to associate
these meetings with shame. Would a student wish their use of the library
to be kept confidential?
Thanks for the prompt to think
Janette

We offer a partial, confidential service to students and do not share student details outside of our immediate team unless a student gives permission for us to do so. There are, we believe, a number of issues that would need to be considered – not least student consent and data protection -but also the admin requirements, implementing an appropriate monitoring and tracking system, reporting procedures… and of course the changing nature of the service and relationship with students.
