I catalogued one particular Georgian pamphlet in the days-before-Twitter, so we used old-fashioned networking-via-email to get some help with the transliteration (thanks SOAS and SSEES!). However, we've just got another one (!), and if we do need a hand, then asking on Twitter is a great idea to try.

Has anyone used social media to identify items or obtain additional metadata about an item? I can imagine this being particularly useful in cataloguing archive or rare material (like Debbie's Georgian pamphlets!)

Hello,
(Sorry: I was at a meeting and am late to the party :-))
I think a twitter marathon is a _brilliant_ idea. It would be great to show some of the obscure things we catalogue (Georgian pamphlets anyone?
)and some of the theoretical issues we wrestle with while classifying.
A 24 hour one sounds particularly great, as it would be interesting to see similarities or differences as the marathon moved around the world!

Agreed! A Twitter Cataloguing Marathon is a lovely idea! :)

hm, off to put my thinking cap on!
