Dear All
Apologies for cross-posting, but I would like to draw to your attention the following job opportunity at the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS), a college of the University of London.
Centenary Archivist
Fixed Term Contract (1 year)
£32,256 - £38,072 p.a inclusive of London Allowance
In 2016 SOAS will celebrate its centenary. This important milestone in the School’s history will be marked by a newly commissioned history. This role is an excellent opportunity to leave your mark on the history of this unique institution.
The Centenary Archivist will play a key role in securing the legacy of the first century of SOAS life. You will review the School’s archives to identify records of use to the School Historian and conduct other research to support his work. You will sort, arrange and catalogue School records to ensure that they can be made available to future historians. In consultation with the Head of Archives and Special Collections and the Information Compliance Manager you will develop a plan for the future management and preservation of the School’s official archives.
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in archives administration (or be working towards one), and have experience of sorting, arranging and cataloguing records to international standards. A self-starter, you will have good communication and IT skills. Experience of using the DS CALM system for cataloguing would be desirable.
The Centenary Archivist will be based in the Archives & Special Collections section of Library & Information Services, but they will report to the Information Compliance Manager in the Directorate, and will spend some of their time working with staff in the School’s Directorate.
