Introduction to Preservation Training Day
18th April 2012, British Library, London
*With apologies for cross posting*
Do you work with books and documents and want to learn how to minimize the risks from everyday use?
Preservation is all about making collections accessible and usable for the long-term. This training day provides an introduction to collection care issues for libraries and archives. It provides practical information to help you manage the threats to collections and keep them in good shape for years to come. Its focus is on the care of physical collections.
The day starts with an overview of preservation, risk management and prioritization. Subsequent sessions focus on storage of collections; how to handle items; emergency response and digital preservation.
By the end of the day, participants will be able to:
• define what is meant by preservation
• give examples of the frameworks used for preservation management
• identify the main threats to library and archive collections
• identify factors to consider when storing physical and digital items
• handle physical items correctly
• find other sources of information to support their preservation work.
Cost: £100 + VAT including lunch and refreshments
