Job Description
Within the School of Business, Economics and Informatics, the
Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics brings together
research and teaching in Mathematics and Statistics, Economics and
Finance, thereby creating significant interdisciplinary synergies.
We are seeking applications for a Lectureship in Statistics with a
projected starting date of 1 September 2012.
Candidate Requirements
You will be expected to teach on the Department’s M.Sc. Applied
Statistics programmes and/or statistics modules that contribute to our
Undergraduate Degree and Certificate programmes, to contribute to
curriculum development, and to conduct and publish high quality research
in the statistical sciences.
Candidates from all areas of Statistics are invited to apply. We are
particularly interested in applicants with research interests in one or
more out of the areas of Medical Statistics, Biostatistics, or Computer
Intensive Statistical Methodology in order to consolidate existing
teaching and research within the Department.
You should be educated to degree level or equivalent, and preferably
have (or be close to completion of) a Ph.D. in Statistics (or a closely
related area). Preferably you should have an established record of
high-quality research or show strong promise as a researcher.
About the Department
The teaching in the Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics
( http://www.ems.bbk.ac.uk/ ) is informed by the latest research and by
the needs of employers. We offer a wide selection of graduate,
undergraduate and 'conversion' courses in economics, finance,
mathematics and statistics. In addition we also provide customised
in-house training to various government departments and city firms.
The success of the Department in the 2008 RAE (Research Assessment
Exercise) demonstrates just how actively engaged in research the
majority of our staff are. Over 90% of Departmental staff were entered,
and 70% of the work submitted was ranked of international excellence (3*
or 4*).
Further Information
Salary Range: £33,966 rising to £38,884 per annum inclusive of London
Allowance.
This post is being offered as a three year fixed term contract.
The initial salary award will be dependent on the skills and experience
of the successful applicant. The appointment may be subject to a
probationary period of up to three years. Birkbeck also provides a
