Hi Teena,
Yes, the Magic Roundabout a good reminder to avoid believing too much in the
value of interpretation.
The French version of the Magic Roundabout and the English version of the
Magic Roundabout were visually identical in all episodes.
The overall story in the French version of the Magic Roundabout, however,
was completely different to the English one. Similarly, the storyline,
meanings and topics of every visually identical episode were different in
the French and English versions. (The BBC bought only the visual film and
created new stories and dialogues.)
How would one guarantee the correct visual interpretation, just viewing the
visuals without the sound....?
On a similar tack, when travelling I sometimes watch films with the sound
turned off. I can lip read reasonably well but often find I have a
completely different understanding of the plot if I see it again with the
sound!
As Derek pointed out on a different topic, the situation is unsatisfactory
because interpretations can rarely be disproven even if incorrect because
observations support them.
Cheers,
terry

Hi Terry,
good to speak to you. Although I am not familiar with the magic roundabout
as you describe (although I am old enough to remember watching it as a
child!) I assume your emphasis is on 'interpretation'.
cheers, teena
