Hi Charlotte
It looks like you have had lots of suggestions for the tools to use, but
in my experience the key factor is the design of the questionnaires.
The usual mistakes are to ask too many questions (so you get very few
responses), to ask some questions that are almost impossible to answer
for various reasons, and not thinking through how you will use the data
once you have it. If you are sending out to only 100 people, then it
would be worth thinking about the levels of statistical confidence you
will have in numerical analysis of the results, with a sample of that
size. It might be a good idea to supplement (or 'triangulate') the
online survey by talking in depth to a few people, as asking people what
they want in an online service, for example, usually leads to very
distorted conclusions.
You are probably aware of most of this already, or it may not apply at
all in your case, but I hope some of it is useful. I'd be happy to talk
you through it a bit if that would be helpful.
Good luck with it.
Best wishes
Martin

There's also PollDaddy <http://polldaddy.com/> - with its WordPress
plugin and iPhone/iPad app.

Full, unlimited version would be about GBP570 a year, pro account about
GBP126 (at current exchange rate). I got another part of the
organisation to fund this on the grounds that we'll all make use of it.

Best wishes

Pete

Subject: Online questionnaire tools

Dear MCGers,

At the Science Museum we're doing a piece of research for which we'd
like to send out a questionnaire to 50-100 people to try and collect
predominantly quantitative, but also some qualitative, data. I'm aware
of a few different systems online of the Survey Monkey type, but I've
never actually used any of them.

Can anybody recommend a good, preferably free, tool? I've be especially
interested to hear about the analytical tools that come with the
service.

Thanks for your help,
Charlotte
