If I change the .lsc file now, won't things break until you've made the
upgrade?
There's got to be a better way (TM). Requiring all sites to upgrade at
the same time is problematic for sites, and apart from anything else
means that it is difficult to test.
If it's not too late, can this be one of the things the TEG thinks about.
