The Shrewsbury school Regestrum Scholarium indicates the sons of
notables with various abbreviations. A knight's son is M. f. (militis
filius), gentleman's Ar. f. (armigeri filius), bishop's Ep. f. (episcopi
filius).
There are also several students, less frequent than armigerous gentry
but more than knights, listed as Ba. f.
Does anyone know what this means? Lawyer? Baronet? Son of a man with a
beard?
Thanks in advance.
