Postdoctoral Position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to work with
Professor Michael Burton on the formation of molecular clouds and the
nature of the dark gas of the Galaxy. Experience is needed in mm-wave
astronomy and molecular line spectroscopy. Modelling of line emission,
interstellar chemistry, IR and/or gamma-ray astronomy are also an asset.
The work will involve data from the Mopra telescope (Australia), Nanten2
telescope (Chile) and the Stratospheric Terahertz Observatory
(Antarctica).
This is a fixed term, full time position for 2 years, with the
possibility of extension to a third. Candidates must possess a PhD in a
relevant area and show a demonstrated ability to pursue independent
research. The salary scale is as for UNSW Academic Salaries (level A or
B).
The Department of Astrophysics at UNSW is one of Australia's leading
research groups and a part of a School of Physics. We conduct research
into molecular clouds and star formation, Antarctic astronomy,
astrobiology and cosmology. UNSW is situated close to the centre of
Sydney and to some wonderful beaches. Sydney has a vibrant astronomical
community including the HQs of the national observatories.
