Dear all,
Wellcome Trust is looking for an organisation or consortium to develop and deliver a new strand of In the Zone, the Trust's major initiative linked to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The new strand, In the Zone 'Lite' involves developing and delivering interactive experiences for the public and training for science communicators and educators. It will engage the public with the science of how their body works during sport, activity, movement and rest.
In the Zone 'Lite' will be delivered by an experienced team of science communicators at events across the UK, usually at no cost to the organiser. Content will draw on elements of the School Kits and the Touring Exhibition strands of In the Zone (further details below) to provide tried and tested hands-on interactive experiences that engage people of all ages with the amazing human mind and body.
In the Zone 'Lite' consists of two work packages but we will accept tenders for one work package only, or tenders that focus on both work packages for a specified Nation. The work packages are:
a) develop and deliver interactive experiences for the public across the UK from April -September 2012 and
b) develop and deliver training for science communicators and educators from May - September 2012
We are expecting to have the In the Zone 'Lite' contractor in post by the beginning of April 2012. Therefore if you are interested in this opportunity please contact myself as soon as possible for more information.
In the Zone update
The major elements of In the Zone are:
* Kits for schools - a physiology-related experiment for every UK child, supported by scientific equipment and teaching resources
* Touring exhibition - a high-quality, interactive and fun science engagement experience for over 200,000 people across the UK
* A smaller-scale touring interactive experience linked to 2012 local events (In the Zone 'Lite')
The initiative was launched last week with Sir Steve Redgrave CBE last week at St Pauls Way Trust School in Tower Hamlets (please see coverage at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-16971663).
Free Kits for Schools
The Trust will send free experiment kits to every UK school and Further Education College in early 2012, engaging young people from 4-19 years through investigative work exploring physiology linked to UK curricula. If you missed us at the ASE conference in January you can see highlights of Sir Steve Redgrave trying out the experiments at http://www.getinthezone.org.uk/news/news-articles/sir-steve-redgrave-gets-in-the-zone/.
Touring Exhibition
A free interactive experience, designed and delivered by At-Bristol Science Centre, engaging 200,000 people of all ages with the science of our amazing human body relating to sport and movement. In the Zone will tour from March - September 2012 around the UK, visiting all four nations; its launch will be at the Big Bang Fair at Birmingham's NEC in March so please do come and see us there.
For more information about In the Zone please see www.getinthezone.org.uk<http://www.getinthezone.org.uk> or follow us on Twitter @inthezone2012.
Best wishes
Stephanie
