Hi Bruce,

I have to support MK on this one. Before MK had first-responded via the list, I had also emailed Phys Phillips (off list, as copied below) to check with him that he hadn't made a mistake (I didn't get a reply).

Your university's commitment to public engagement (and the formalisation of that in its charter/mission statement/strategy/whatever) is a pretty tedious link. There's no specific requirement in the job (below) for science communication experience.

It's a bog standard science lectureship.

Best,

Wynn

Hi Michael,

The short answer is yes, Cardiff's School of Engineering and the rest of the University are committed to public engagement with the research that they do. They (and EADS I think) are currently funding an exhibit based upon this research area at Techniquest.

Even with all the HR language, public engagement is not as explicitly included as I would like but it comes under the "enhancement of School profile" which is a Cardiff shorthand within academic roles. As an aside, there are more posts being advertised within the administrative areas of the University that have supporting academics to do public engagement as a duty.

Bruce
