Conference themes
Libraries from all sectors are increasingly under pressure to achieve
more with reduced resources. This is especially the case for
cataloguing. Changed and changing workflows are making cataloguers
re-think how they can continue to provide quality.
How can cataloguers demonstrate the essential, important, but endangered
nature of their work? Do they have the skills and knowledge required in
the 21st century cataloguing environment? How can they meet the
challenge of new ways of working and adopting new standards?
The 2012 CIG conference aims to ask, and answer, the difficult questions
facing cataloguing.
Conference Papers
CIG welcomes proposals that cover, but are not confined to, the
following topics: Balancing quality with quantity; Doing more with
less; Demonstrating value; Re-defining workflows and new ways of
working; Managing vendor-supplied records; The challenges of e-resources
cataloguing; Adopting new standards; Funding and managing projects with
limited budgets. Conference papers should be 45 minutes in length
(including time for questions).
Lightning Round
CIG also welcomes speakers to present short (5 or 10 minute)
presentations in a 'lightning round'. These allow participants to raise
issues, topics, highlight work and projects, etc on a range of issues.
If you do not have a full conference paper to present, then consider
giving a brief talk instead.
Submissions
Proposals for papers and lightning round talks should be submitted by
Friday 6th April 2012. Details of submissions requirements are
available on the CIG web-site
