Just a comment after a little reflection - that while we do need to ask
Innovative to get Millennium changed to output in the desired format, it
appears to be the BL who are causing the problem by changing their
system and expecting everyone to be able to comply.

We are planning to go live with BLDSS on 1st March and would be very
keen to join a lobbying group about this. We had been about to raise a
call with Innovative to get them to change the ILL request form order
but there doesn't seem to be much point based on the experience in
Leeds.

Thanks

Jane

Dear all,

We have a committee meeting on 20th March so if any of you would like us
to lobby innovative can you let me or one of the committee know and we
can discuss at the meeting how to proceed.

Thanks

Hi James,

We use the Millennium ILL module and would be keen to join a lobbying
group about this issue.

Subject: ARTEmail, BLDSS and Millennium ILL

This post is a heads-up to those sites using the Millennium ILL module
to request document supplies through the British Library's ARTEmail
system.

At Leeds, we've been trialling the British Library's BLDSS system for
document matching. The new feature of this system is its reliance on
machine matching to process ARTEmail requests; the conventional ARTEmail
system involves a human in the loop somewhere.

For Leeds, the trial has highlighted the importance of the ARTEmail
message request structure. If the Millennium ILL module is constructing
requests out-with the ARTEmail spec (as ours is) then you can expect to
receive a high volume of rejections and mismatches.

For example, a typical ARTEmail request from our ILL module is:
TXUL13833 S SED99
Elise Tipton
Cruising Ginza
Literature and Aesthetics
2007
17
1
125-140
1036-9368

The BLDSS system prefers:

TXUL13833 S SED99
Literature and Aesthetics
2007 vol 17 pt 1 pp 125-140
Cruising Ginza
Elise Tipton
1036-9368

(A guide to the correct format is available in the following document in
section 9:
http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/atyourdesk/docsupply/help/bldss/replycodes/BLDS
SguidetoARTEmail.pdf)

The British Library intends to move all customers over to the BLDSS
system by the end of April. If your ILL module is not constructing
ARTEmail requests exactly to the spec then you will likely experience
rejections and mismatches. Leeds submitted a support call to III
(c1334689 (LEEDS)) but were told that the ILL module cannot be
reconfigured. Their support technician proposed we enter our request
into III's annual 'request for enhancement' round. Given this is often
dominated by US sites and this issue is likely to effect only UK sites,
the EIUG community might have to engage in a collective lobby to get
this fixed. My own experience tells me it will need more than just our
site. Comments / expressions of interest welcomed!
