A national project on patron-driven acquisition (PDA) in Sweden started on
February 1, 2012. Uppsala, Södertörn and Malmö university libraries are
working in collaboration on the project, which is being funded by the
National Library of Sweden. The project's aim is to investigate the use of
PDA as an acquisition model for academic libraries.
We will compare the different PDA vendors on the Swedish market,
investigate library experiences with PDA and conduct a pilot scheme in the
collaborating libraries. The results of the project will be presented by
the end of 2012.
All experiences of PDA are of interest to us, so please answer the
questions below that are relevant to you.

1. How have you worked with PDA?
2. Which e-book platform did you use? What is your experience of the
service provider? Would you choose the same platform again?
3. Please describe the settings on the platform, e.g. short term loans,
number of clicks for a purchase etc.
4. How many books did you make available in the catalogue? How did you
make your selection? By subject? By year of publication? By publisher?
5. What is your total budget for purchasing books? What proportion was set
aside for PDA?
6. What effect has PDA had on your workflows and procedures?
7. What effect has PDA had on your collections?
8. What effect has PDA had on your ILL?
9. Was particular attention given to marketing PDA?
10. Was any feedback received from the end-users?
11. Did you come across any particular problems/pitfalls? Is there
anything you would have done differently?
12. Which were the most important experiences and lessons learned?
