University of Bristol - Dept. Civil Engineering - United Kingdom
Position: Research Assistant in Geotechnical Engineering (Ref. 16928)
Subject: Anisotropy of fibre reinforced sands under generalised loading conditions
Contract: Fixed Term 14 months
Salary: £29,972
Start date: 1st May (or as soon as possible thereafter)
A postdoctoral research scientist position is available at the department of Civil Engineering of University of Bristol, United Kingdom. As part of an EPSRC funded project, the anisotropic behaviour of fibre reinforced sands under generalised loading conditions will be investigated. The research will (1) characterise the mechanical response of the material using the Hollow Cylinder Torsional Apparatus (HCTA) and (2) develop a theoretical model for fibre reinforced sands. The research project will be part of ongoing research activities on fibre reinforced soils which have been nationally and internationally acknowledged. The project’s outcomes will be of primary importance for the geotechnical design of fibre reinforced soil systems.
You will be mainly responsible for the experimental investigation using the HCTA. You will be involved in the review and performance of the laboratory test program while defining appropriate methodologies for the analysis of the test results. You will write up the project’s result in the form of publications and contribute to the dissemination of the project’s outcome through seminar and conference presentations.
You should have a PhD in civil engineering or cognate disciplines and previous experience in advanced laboratory testing of geomaterials.
