I was surprised to read in your posting that Meg Rosoff had to change the colour of her character's hair to comply with the cover. The edition I have read has a blonde girl on the cover but this is at odds with the character described within the story, who is definitely not blonde. Indeed I felt that the entire story hinged on darkness in character or appearance, or both - so to make the protagonist fair in the story would appear to be a betrayal of the author's original intent.
Is it possible to read what Meg Rosoff has to say on the changes? I would be very interested to do so
