Job Details
Making a significant contribution to an ongoing research project, we will give you the time and encouragement to develop your research profile. This project is titled 'Robotic and information technologies in livestock agriculture: new relationships between humans, cows and machines'.
The Department of Geography is based in the Cohen Building, a grade two-listed building that is part of the University's conservation area, complete with world-class research facilities and laboratories. The department has a worldwide reputation for its research into human and physical geography.
You will conduct secondary and contextual research on robotic and information technologies in livestock agriculture. Playing an important role in the later stages of the project, you may be involved with research on farms, at agricultural colleges, with commercial and charitable organisations, and with the public in the UK. You may also conduct interviews and observational research that involves video recording people, animals and technologies.
A PhD in an appropriate area of social science is essential, as is experience of qualitative research methods and analysis, plus communicating research findings in both written and oral forms. You should expect to take part in all aspects of the research project and, importantly, you must be able to travel for fieldwork, which may involve visiting remote locations in the UK within often difficult terrain.
This is a fixed term position for six months.
