Please see below for information regarding an opportunity for a Sarcoma Analyst at the West Midlands Cancer Intelligence Unit.

WEST MIDLANDS CANCER INTELLIGENCE UNIT (WMCIU)

SARCOMA ANALYST

Band 5 21,176 - 27,625 pa (April 2011)

Full-time 37.5 Hours per Week

Fixed term: 1 Year

The West Midlands Cancer Intelligence Unit (WMCIU) is an NHS organisation dedicated to collecting and analysing data on cancer patients, and using this information to improve quality and choice. The WMCIU is the National Cancer Intelligence Network's lead registry for bone and soft tissue sarcoma.

The Sarcoma Analyst will deliver a defined 12 month work programme on bone and soft tissue sarcomas. They will have access to national data on all sarcoma cases recorded in England and will be responsible for producing key information such as incidence, mortality, prevalence and survival. The agreed work programme includes opportunities to work on projects related to referral patterns, treatment, and the effect of deprivation.

The Sarcoma Analyst's work will be disseminated by reports, presentations, papers, and publications of the National Cancer Intelligence Network. They will also work to support and inform strategic decisions about the commissioning of NHS services. The work programme will be steered by the National Clinical Site Specific Reference Group, a panel of clinical sarcoma specialists from around the country.

The post will be based at the WMCIU but will also work with clinicians at the Birmingham Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

The post would suit a numerate candidate with a first degree with a strong analytical component and good working knowledge of epidemiology and oncology. The ability to conduct independent analyses of data and clearly present these findings to clinicians and non-specialists is essential.

We encourage flexible working arrangements, recognising the need to balance work and personal commitments.

For informal discussion, please call Matthew Francis on 0121 414 7717.

Application form and job description are available only at www.jobs.nhs.uk under job reference 231-12-CI-02. Or

http://www.jobs.nhs.uk/cgi-bin/vacdetails.cgi?selection=912795447

Only on-line applications will be considered.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 19 January 2012

Initial short listed candidates will be sent a test by email. This is expected to take about 1 hour 30 minutes, and covers basic analytical skills such as the use of Microsoft Excel. Tests are to be returned by the 31 January 2012. Only applicants who are successful at this stage will be called to formal interview

Interview date: Friday 10 February 2012

Best wishes

Tim
