All,
As discussed in todays ops meeting, I've been participating in the 'Application Software Management' and 'Middleware Configuration, Deployment and Distribution' sub-groups.
In the afternoon I'll be presenting two or three slides suggesting at most three priorities for teh next 5 years development.
In the absence of other input I'd say:
For 'Application Software Management' the situation is recently much improved with the combination of cvmfs and alice's move to torrent based sw distribution. The situation should continue to be monitored, but there is no high priority beyond continuing making it as easy as possible for VOs and sites to use those methods.
For 'Middleware Configuration, Deployment and Distribution' things are less clear. The current situation is rather involved, a number of different configuration tools are used and new ones may appear, but fundamentally the configuration is too complex. The priority should be to improve the packaging and simplify the configuration required for the middleware - oh and of course provide documentation other than the yaim scripts.
This in turn should make it easier to manage with whatever configuration management tools sites use.
I welcome any comments/further suggestions.
