Dear Sarah
I picked up on this e-mail communique and wanted to introduce myself and fire back a few thoughts/framings on artplayer.tv mentioned in Honor's e-mail. I am the Project Manager for artplayer.tv platform. Thanks for the mention Honor.
I think all orgs are looking for further clarification around the future of content post the October cut off for the Space - we all await that in the arts sector.
Below are a few bullets on artplayer.tv. I draw your attention to point 6 because I have been in discussion with Marialaura Ghidini about a cross platform (mobile, web, tablet) narrative project that builds on her Or-Bits work and research. artplayer.tv would like to support this kind of work which explore these multiple and simultaneous broadcasting routes and ways of doing so could be a percentage level of in-kind support in terms of production costs and dissemination. This kind of unique content is what will advance the pull to the site. This is just one example of the kind of collaborative work I am talking about and there are others in development.
Some points to consider:
artplayer,tv is a free to use, free to subscribe to and self-managed online media player for the arts. In the first instance it is aimed primarily at those organisations in the National Potfolio, and it concentrates on presenting video content created by the sector. It is backed up by susidised services that include production and editing facilities in video, training in video production and digital marketing advice and training.
artplayer.tv would welcome organisations who wish to create their own channel on artplayer.tv to go to www.artplayer.tv<http://www.artplayer.tv/> and register for this by following the instructions online. This is a free service, and once you have created your channel you will be free to manage it as you wish. artplayer.tv is a dedicated site for the UK arts, a showcase for the arts and designed to help you get your Great Art to Everyone
.
1. artplayer.tv is a free to use platform designed for and dedicated to the UK arts.
2. In this pilot phase it is specifically designed for those organisations that are in the NPO umbrella. However as a place for promoting artists work our aim is for it to be the de facto UK site with 3-5 years.
3. It will be administrated and managed by a dedicated artplayer.tv team, based at FACT, but is NOT a FACT product or FACT branded, but a sector asset. You will see form the site that there is no FACT branding at all on there.
3. It will provide a dedicated site where NPOs can create their own unique channel and populate with their own content to be part of a public-facing, profile raising, showcase for the UK arts.
4. If needed we can provide services for the training, production and editing of content across the sector to raise skills levels and in-house capabilities for the capturing of the vital work taking place across the sector, and retain it in a one-stop space for the arts.
5. It will contain unique content presented through the NPO's channels and with the assistance of the artplayer.tv team, that pull audience to those channels, the NPOs' own websites, into venues and more generally to increase the "digital footprint" of the sector itself.
6. It will be a space for cross-venue and cross artform collaboration in both commissioning and digital engagement that breaks the new ground in creating unique content that can be deployed to promote the health of the UK arts sector.
7. It is ready to go in relation to creating channels and populating with content in "stealth" mode until February - from when we will be soft launching until March/April -when we intend to do a public launch event which showcases the platform and the work on there.
8. It is part of a sustainable, growing archive of the activities of the sector past and present that is public facing.
Hope that helps
Roger
