KTP ASSOCIATE - GEOSPATIAL DECISION SUPPORT ANALYST/DEVELOPER (ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE,
DATA FUSION, OPERATIONAL RESEARCH, SYSTEMS ANALYSIS) - REF: RCI1836

University of Bradford and Gaist Ltd., Yorkshire (BD20 7EH), UK.
Salary: £21,000 to £27,000.
Closing date: 5pm on Friday 10th February 2012.
To apply and for further information go to:
http://www.bradford.ac.uk/human-resources/jobs-at-bradford/jobs/research-vacancies/

This project's overall aim is to develop computerised information management and decision support
systems, using geo-located condition data for better strategic/operational planning of public assets
such as roads, pavements and parkland. Billions of pounds are spend annually on building and
maintaining these assets. This project will pave the way for a new generation of computerised
planning systems which fuse data from a wide range of sources, ranging from mobile phones to
sophisticated sensor vehicles, and leverage advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Operational
Research (OR) techniques to use that data to produce management information and plans/schedules
which yield substantial productivity improvements and cost savings.

Gaist Ltd. (http://www.gaist.co.uk) is a UK leader in software and services for geospatial decision
support. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Centre within the University of Bradford is a UK and
international leader in data fusion, decision support, planning/scheduling and optimisation.
During this exciting 3-year project, the KTP Associate will be based at Gaist‚s head office in the
picturesque Yorkshire town of Cross Hills, working closely with University of Bradford staff. The KTP
Associate will also work closely with an EPSRC CASE PhD student based at the University of Bradford
(to be recruited).

Reporting to Gaist‚s senior management, the KTP Associate will lead the analysis and development of
novel computer systems for data fusion, visualisation, optimisation and decision support using geo-
located condition data. Performance will be measured against a detailed project plan, with the
flexibility to react to changes in technology and environment.

The project has the potential to revolutionise asset management practices throughout the public
sector. We seek a KTP Associate with the vision, technical ability, personal qualities and flair to lead
such a high-profile, high-impact project.

You should have a 1st or 2:1 degree in Computer Science or a related subject with a substantial
element of data analysis, discrete mathematics and programming (e.g. Mathematics, Engineering,
Physical Sciences). A PhD or Masters degree in an area related to Artificial Intelligence or algorithm
design is desirable. You will be a self-motivated and confident person who is willing to take the
initiative, a capable and positive thinker, a team player and an excellent communicator. You will be
encouraged to register for a PhD if you do not already have one.

Starting salary is from £21,000 to £27,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience,
for a 3- year fixed-term contract. You will also have a personal training allowance of £6,000 over the
three years; a budget of £6,750 for travel to conferences, client sites and other meetings; high-
performance desktop and laptop computing facilities; and access to all University facilities and
training.

For informal enquiries please contact Professor Peter Cowling ([log in to unmask]) or Dr
Ping Jiang ([log in to unmask]).

Closing date: 5pm on Friday 10th February 2012.
