medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
There is actually a more serious issue here. I have been trained by my IT people never,
NEVER, to click on a link that I am not absolutely certain about. Now the posts that come
from the medieval religion list and JISCMAIL are pretty clearly identifiable, and come right after one has sent the original message, but still . . . the main issue here is "NEEDLESSLY". Were there serious problems with hijacked addresses or the like? My motto has always been "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (and acting contrary to that motto in anticipation of problems has sometimes proved expensive!)

i totally agree with the "needlessly" --it "fixes" a non-existent problem.
as for "obstructive," yes, i suppose that it does take perhaps 3 seconds to
open the email asking for confirmation, to click on the link, and then to
close the new window which opens (you don't have to even go to the new window
--or to close it, for that matter).
the digitally challenged may even find that it takes as much as 5 seconds to
do this rigorous, "obstructive" task.
>In order to further the free and rapid exchange of ideas,
you mean, as opposed to the list itself which, in my 10+ year's experience,
has always been "free" (except for Mommieistical Obstructionism) and "rapid"
in the Exchange Department.
>I've created a Facebook page that will be devoted exclusively to list
members.....This is not intended to supplant the list, just augment its
possibilities.
i fail to see how it could possibly "augment" the "possibilities" already
possible on the list.
>I will set it up so that friends may post pictures on my wall, another way to
get your photo out to the group.
very rarely a problem (again, in my short experience on the list).
it *Ain't Broke* --so it don't need "fixing."
setting up a parallel FaceBook "list" is almost as dumb as inserting some sort
of tag line (like, say, "medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval
religion and culture") at the beginning of each post to the list.
besides, doesn't that mean that now there will be *two* List Mommies?
i say, it's time to enact some sort of lex parsimoniae and do away with
Superfluous List Mommies, since they are all clearly sine neccesitate.
