**AHRC full-time PhD studentship 2012/13 **
The School of Computing, Engineering & Information Sciences at Northumbria University has an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentship for a full time PhD from September 2012 as part of a Block Grant partnership. Details are at http://nuweb.northumbria.ac.uk/nebgp/opportunities.php and the application deadline is noon 9 March 2012.
The research theme is open to enable a wide range of applicants to propose an area of study, but it should fit within the Information Management Innovation (IMI) Research Group’s interests (http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/sd/academic/ceis/re/isrc/) which are in three distinctive yet related areas:
• Information & Records Management – people, processes, systems and governance
• Information Behaviour – information users, use and sharing, trust in the digital
• Information Modelling – workflow and sociotechnical design; business intelligence
An emerging interdisciplinary theme is the use and potential of digital technologies in the cultural/heritage context, including, for example, social media, text mining, visualization, and the reality and value of digital heritage objects. With this studentship we are particularly interested in linking the concerns of the cultural heritage sector with the information management and innovation research agenda.
The successful candidate will join the IMI Research Group in the School of Computing, Engineering & Information Sciences which comprises academic staff and a large group of full/part-time PhD and Professional Doctorate students. IMI has a track record as a leader in innovative international research programmes which have linked information risks and opportunities with wider societal concerns across disciplines. Its work and outputs have impacted on academia, professional practice and society more widely. The successful candidate will benefit from the University's generic research support as well as specialist research skills training delivered by the School. They will also be part of the research community of Northumbria University and the University of Sunderland, our AHRC Block Grant partners.
Prospective applicants can informally discuss research proposals in advance of application. Please contact: Professor Julie McLeod (IMI Research Group, School of Computing, Engineering & Information Sciences, Tel: 0191 227 3764, email [log in to unmask])
