James Watson's 'The Double Helix: A Personal Account of the Discovery of the Structure of DNA'? Has the added advantage of showing lots of the warts of science and having been a very controversial book (e.g. for his sexism, esp. towards Rosalind Franklin). Not sure it's in print at the moment but there must be lots of copies knocking about in secondhand bookshops if not.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Biochemistry reading at A-level
Hi all,
Does anyone have suggestions for a book that I could recommend to an A-level student interested in pursuing a career in Biochemistry? I really enjoy reading but sadly my reading interests seem not to have streched to non-fiction science books!
So far I have:
The Lives of a Cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher - Lewis Thomas
How We Live and Why We Die: the secret lives of cells - Lewis Wolpert
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot
Would love to hear of any more additions to this list - having been thinking of putting it up the list on my website so it is accessible to all.
Thanks,
Zara
