Hello,
OK, I confess that I don’t really believe (and I have never claimed or
charged) that Humantific is a harmful cult but I apologize if I have hurt
feelings. However, I refuse to accept Susana La Luz’s reading of my post as
correctly capturing what I have written or intended to mean. I would like
to suggest Susana to read my posts again and that might help erase some of
the misunderstandings.
I am still troubled but I will express differently my difficulties with GK
van Patter’s post on 01.12 to which Andrew King responded. With the help of
Andrew’s analysis, I don’t agree van Patter’s language was just ‘a strong
sale pitch’ as someone would like us to believe. I find van Patter’s post
very problematic because as Andrew has clarified, it ‘erect barriers to
critical thought, and information sharing, and in attempts to represent, or
imply a representation, that the cultic worldview, or narrative of 'the way
the world is' is a universally valid and exclusive one, e.g. that it
invalidates all other narratives’.
I will still characterize van Patter’s post as coercive persuasion and
against academic values. And because of that, I repeat the questions that I
would like to invite the list to debate:
1. The values and issues of commercial seminars in relation to
university teaching.
2. The values and issues of enrolling commercial consultants who do not
seem to hold academic values into the university lecture hall.
3. The criteria and issues of choosing commercial/industry partners for
teaching and research.
Best,
Rosan
