Web Presence for Libraries

Librarians need to make sure they have a coherent and integrated web presence as an effective marketing strategy. This course looks at how to plan, create and manage a far-reaching and integrated web presence using home pages, facebook, twitter, blogs and other social media tools and how to overcome some of the restrictions placed by firewalls and controls in place in most educational establishments. £125
Truth, Lies and the Internet - an update

This report into young people's digital fluency, published in September 2011, raised serious issues about the ability of pupils to effectively evaluate information they find on the internet. The authors of this report came to this from studying how conspiracy theories take hold and how terrorist organisations recruit members. They are hosting this seminar to present their findings, discuss what needs to be taught in schools, and start to examine how to do it. £125
Creative Writing Activities Online

There are many opportunities to explore creative writing using online tools such as ComicLife, WriteOnline and blog pages. This course looks at how writing needs to change for web audiences and tools that are freely available for pupils to use, with an eye on web safety and copyright issues. £75
Publish your own eBook

As well as reading e-books, an exciting new possibility is to create your own. This course gives practical experience of software freely available and will enable you to work with pupils to design and distribute their work. £75
Junior Librarian Workshop

This is a workshop for all who use "Junior Librarian" to manage primary school libraries. Delegates will learn about new features of the software, and can bring along their own questions and problems for solving. £75
Fronter for Libraries

1.30pm - 4.30pm
Libraries of the future will include e-management of resources and Fronter provides a vehicle for libraries to ensure pupils have access to the resources they need at the right time. This course will give practical advice on how to organise your library online. £75
Using the Internet Safely

The e-Safety issues arise when using the Internet and associated technologies - this course looks at how to develop an e-Safety policy, and embed it across the curriculum, as well as resources and organisations to support e-Safety for schools, children and parents. £75
Cartoon Creativity

Use Comic Live software to promote creativity and literacy, and see the power of comics as campaigning, advertising and personal issue discussion tools. £75
Adobe InDesign Workshop

This course covers the process required to plan, design and prepare a document, book or poster, the essential tools of InDesign - text entry, editing and formatting, image entry and formatting and graphics and layout and how to prepare your document for the printers. delegates are invited to bring a piece of work they want to develop along, or can start from scratch with ideas provided. £125
Adobe Photoshop

Images are essential to any marketing strategy, but it is not always easy to find the right one. This course will show delegates how to create and edit high quality images confidently and discuss graphics for presentations, printing and the web for beginners and intermediate users. £125
Working with Green Screen: creating fantasy worlds with video cameras

Wednesday 7th March
9.30am - 12.30pm
This course explores fantasy worlds within the curriculum and how creating green screen video can support creative writing. Delegates will script a scene for a film, use digital videocameras to shoot and edit a scene, superimpose your characters on a background of your choice and finally use pinnacle software to edit your characters into your fantasy world. £75
Podcasting for Beginners

9.30am - 12.30pm
Podcasting is a way of publishing sound files to an audience. They are usually spoken word, in the form of a news report or audio magazine or radio show. This course will introduce delegates to the basic principles of creating and managing podcasts. Delegates will gain an overview of the publishing process, understand how to capture edit and broadcast, record a piece and edit it using Audacity, publish a piece on Audioboo and embed podcasts on your website or blog. £75
E-book Provision in your School

There are many issues to consider when buying e-books for pupils to use in school and at home. This course will introduce delegates to the range of e-book formats and how easy or difficult they are to use as well as covering licensing arrangements for the purchase of e-books and the lending of them, the costs both overt and hidden, where to find useful online resources and how to make them accessible. £95
