Application of Raman spectroscopy in the Earth sciences: Recent advances
Conveners: O. Beyssac (CNRS IMPMC Paris), L. Nasdala (University of Vienna)
Co-Convener: T. Váczi (University of Budapest)
Raman spectroscopy is now used considerably in the Earth sciences as a
structural and/or chemical characterisation technique for natural
samples and synthetic analogues, from fluids to minerals and organic
compounds, but also as an in situ technique in experimental cells where
parameters like pressure, temperature and/or oxygen fugacity are
controlled. Over the last years, there has been a considerable
improvement in the versatility of the instruments and performances,
especially for Raman imaging which now offers versatile opportunities.
In parallel, there is a growing demand for theoretical knowledge and
consistent reference spectral databases. The goal of this session is to
gather Raman-oriented studies in all fields of the Earth sciences and
beyond. All methodological or technological new aspects of Raman
spectroscopy, theoretical approaches as well as discussions of the
advantages/limits of the technique are encouraged to be presented.
