On 24 and 25 January 2012, the EC KEEP project will facilitate a free-to-attend workshop at the Novotel Cardiff focusing on the technical and legal aspects of emulation in the context of digital preservation. It will show the results of two and half years’ work by KEE, as well as considering the main issues relating to media transfer tools and the use of emulation as part of a digital preservation strategy.
The Cardiff workshop will also include demonstrations and invite participants to test the different tools developed within the project, with the ability to have permanent access to them after the event is over.
We are also pleased to announce that there will be special guest keynote address by Professor Ian Hargreaves, Professor of Digital Economy at Cardiff University and author of the recent report - "Digital Opportunity - A Review of Intellectual Property and Growth" which is expected to make a substantial contribution to future UK policy on digital IP. This is of particular relevance owing to the work undertaken in KEEP on the legal aspects of digital preservation. Professor Hargreaves' report can be downloaded from

What is KEEP ?
KEEP (Keeping Emulation Environments Portable) is developing emulation services to enable accurate rendering of both static and dynamic digital objects: text, sound, and image files; multimedia documents, websites, databases, videogames etc.
The overall aim of the project is to facilitate universal access to our cultural heritage by developing flexible tools for accessing and storing a wide range of digital objects. KEEP will also consider legal issues concerning the implementation of emulation-based systems and propose solutions which comply with European and national copyright laws.
