Venets: The Belogradchik Journal for Local History, Cultural History and Folk Studies ISSN 1314-0426 (print) ISSN 1314-0256 (online) is a periodical consisting of three main sections: Literary Section, Archives Section and Research Section. The profile of the journal (peer-reviewed in its research part) embraces the following topics: Local/Family History, Oral History, Heritage Studies, Rural Studies, Memory Studies, Folk Studies.

Contributors from all over the world are encouraged to send manuscripts in the above mentioned areas that should be written in a readable and scholarly manner. Manuscripts (in English or in Bulgarian) should not exceed 30 standard pages in length including illustrations, tables, figures and references. Articles must be accompanied by a summary of size not exceeding 20 lines.
Style should conform to that of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
The electronic submission of the manuscript (in word format) is preferable.

In 2011 a book entitled "Golden Book of Bulgarian Science" was published (Lazarova, 2011). Many eminent Bulgarian scientists were interviewed about the course of their life and scientific achievements. The editor of "Venets", Prof. Dr. B.V. Toshev, DSc, University of Sofia, was amongst them. The full text of his interview, where he shares with Doc. Dr. Erika Lazarova his opinion and reflections about science, research and education, is presented in this journal because the role of family, teachers and Belogradchik for creating the future scientist is specially emphasized.

Chervenata stena [Red Mountain] is a mountain in the skirt of which is the town of Bitolya, Macedonia. In the last years of WWI 15th Infantry Lom Regiment (Belogradchik) was there. This excerpt is a personal narrative of a soldier who participated in the military operations of that regiment. His story under the title "Chervenata stena" was written 13 years after the war and was published in Mezdra (1931).

The paper discusses the importance of postcards as a source for genealogical research. It reconstructs the most important events in the family history of Abraham Amirchanjanz by using the information contained in the postcards in the family archives, sent from Europe В– Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Finland, Great Britain, Romania etc., in the period between the end of XIX and the beginning of XX century. Abraham Amirchanjanz, was a missionary who, together with his family, worked devotedly for saving the persecuted Armenians in Turkey and also played a key role in shaping the Christian Protestant Church in Varna, Bulgaria. The paper also views some aspects of the complex relations of Pastor Amirchanjanz with the German Orient Mission, revealed through the family correspondence.
