You will work under the supervision of Prof Peter Diggle on an MRC-funded project: Statistical Modelling for Real-time Spatial Surveillance and Forecasting.
You will be involved in the development of novel spatio-temporal statistical methods and their application in a range of public health settings, including real-time health surveillance in England and Wales and forecasting of emergent meningitis epidemics in sub-Saharan Africa.
These two applications will involve close collaboration with NHS Direct and with the WHO-sponsored MERIT consortium, respectively. You may have the opportunity to travel both within the UK and internationally to visit our collaborators in Europe, the USA and Africa.
You should have a PhD or equivalent qualification in statistics, or in epidemiology with a strong statistical component. Research experience in spatial statistics and/or in environmental epidemiology would be advantageous.
