Hi Elena,
the first thing to do is to set the CE into downtime, then turn off
the monitoring/production status in the GOCDB and drain it. At the
same time you should tell Atlas (and whoever else needs to know, but
in my experience it's only the LHC experiments) to remove the CEs from
their databases.
Once that's done, just take it out of the bdii and turn it off.
On a side note: If you reinstall the machine as a creamce, do yourself
a favour and give it a different name, not all monitoring software can
handle a change of machine type smoothly (that's why I am up to 06
even though I only have 4 ces).
