Postdoctoral Position in Theoretical Chemistry/Computational Biochemistry, Goethe University Frankfurt/Main, Germany (E13 TV-G-U, full time)
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in theoretical chemistry/computational biochemistry at the Goethe University Frankfurt. The position is available in the group of Prof. Irene Burghardt, on the topic of photoinduced ligand-RNA interactions. This research position is supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation.
The goal of the project is a detailed molecular understanding and modeling of the interaction between small ligand species acting as photoswitches or photocages (photolabile groups), and regulatory RNA structures (aptamers). A key challenge is to connect the primary light-induced events on ultrafast time scales to conformational changes on intermediate and long time scales. The topic directly relates to a project within the local Collaborative Research Center SFB 902 (Molecular Principles of RNA-based Regulation).
Candidates should be highly motivated and should bring experience in biomolecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulations. Strong local expertise is available in excited-state processes, quantum and quantum-classical dynamics, on-the-fly QM/MM-MD methods, as well as MD and coarse-graining methods via collaborations within the Department. The collaborative research within SFB 902 involves a broad spectrum of experimental groups that provide an ideal environment for this research.
The position is available from 1 January 2012 onwards, and the initial appointment is for 1 year, with an extension for a second year upon mutual agreement. Applications including a CV and a publication list should be addressed to Prof. I. Burghardt, and two letters of recommendation should be made available. Applications may be sent by email. For further information, please contact [log in to unmask] Applications will be considered as of December 15, 2011.
The contract is fixed term, up to an overall duration of two years, based upon the regulations of the "Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz" and the "Hessische Hochschulgesetz". The University is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages women to apply. In case of equal qualification, preference will be given to applicants with disabilities.
