Dear Tony,
Whilst not being 'the above England', there is pertinence all the same.
What might not be generally known, is that R.Arthur Thomas of Dolcoath and
Oliver Wethered were very much involved with Glasdir in 1905, and together
with the Elmores' were 'doing things' (which I will not enlarge upon at
this time). RAT having control of Dolcoath in 1904, after returning to that
mine in 1895 (and having 'interest' in other Cornish mines - and overseas),
OW, a major mineral Ind. player, having also a great deal of Cornish
involvement, but with even more overseas tin interests), there was an 'agenda',
and one that is very interesting. At this time, it is easy to see that tin
production in Cornwall was costly, whilst Straights and other Far East areas
could produce far greater amounts for considerably less cost.
So, whether for copper or tin, or both and more, the Elmore process was/is
a deeply involved subject, not to mention Minerals Separation Ltd and
Capt.Broadbridge and others connected who developed the whole thing further, and
in connection with all of this I have had Mss. for some while now, and am
still piecing it all together as and when time permits. So, more to tell
one day!
Regards, Bernard
p.s. Re prev. Link post, thankyou to those who replied off-List. The
bequest of the amazing re-discovered footage to an Inst. stating non commercial
usage creates many probs.. One suggestion of format has been passed on to
the Producers and will be recognised if used and if the thing can be
produced.
