The School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (SEMS) is the
largest of the four schools which comprise the Faculty of Science,
Technology and Engineering and is one of the largest at La Trobe
University. The School's research philosophy reflects La Trobe
University's core objective of meeting the needs of the Australian
community. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a very
active research department, recognised by the University as an area of
research strength, with many international and national connections.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has earned its reputation
as one of Australia's most progressive teaching departments in the
Mathematical Sciences and is a place where students actively learn
Mathematics and Statistics in an informal environment. La Trobe
University is the first university in Australia to have its statistics
program accredited by the Statistical Society of Australia Inc and is
currently the only university in Victoria to have this accreditation
for a program at undergraduate level.
The position
In this role you will be expected to make contributions to the
teaching effort of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and
engage in scholarship, research and professional activities
appropriate to Statistics. Acting as subject Coordinator you will be
responsible for initiating and developing course material with
appropriate advice from and support from senior staff, as well as
teach honours and/or coursework at postgraduate level. You will
supervise major honours or postgraduate research projects and conduct
tutorials, practice and computer laboratory classes.
The candidate
To succeed, you will have demonstrated high level communication
skills, which will enable you to successfully supervise research and
higher degree students. You will possess a PhD in Statistics with
publications in internationally recognised statistical science
journals. Successful teaching experience in Statistics at
undergraduate level, or demonstrated potential to teach successfully
at undergraduate level is essential to be considered for this role.
Membership of national and international professional societies in the
relevant fields is highly desirable.
